SAM 14 – focused on man
Cover page of SAM 14 has been taken by Peter Bagi the representative of manipulated photography and the first Slovakian who obtained the European title Master QEP. Besides professional photographers there are also great journalistic talents in Slovakia who combine pictures with words. One of them is Diana Mrazikova who described her positive approach to journalism with credo “Everywhere well but best in the world”. In addition Milan Maronek the president of photo club IRIS prepared a photo report from Seoul in Korea.
SAM 14 is focused on man. Almost all portfolios are more or less related to this topic. Our authors handle it obviously in a different manner and express themselves through variety of styles from fashion, journalism to old photographic techniques. Focused on man (closer Man and addiction) is the main motive of the Czech Open-air PHOTO festival. Our New wave of magazine SAM is being currently promoted on the website of the festival and will culminate in a video projection and presentation on 6th of June 2015 in Cesky Krumlov. We will compare our one with photographers who belong to Slovak New wave in the eighties. A hard nut to crack. Keep your fingers crossed!

After a longer creative break we have completed the thirteenth issue of Slovak Art Magazine. After half a year we are introducing new authors along well-known names. This time we talked with Jakub Klimo professional advertising fashion and staged photographer about his beginnings and carrier. What is perhaps interesting and completely unexpected that magazine also includes thirteen female photographers and this number is consistent with the issue itself. In the series “Invisible photographers” we publishe a portrait of the famous Czech photographer Sara Saudkova in collaboration with Robert Vano Gallery and Kat Benzová wrote for us and instructions how to become a desirable rock photographer.
The announced cooperation with the Czech Open-air photo festival took a concrete form in presenting slovak New Wave and two photographers are presented with their portfolios on the festival website every two weeks. The organizers fulfilled the necessary conditions and has received approval for Visegrad grant. We congratulate them and are looking forward for the next cooperation.
We wish you a nice browsing through our magazine which is created with you and for you.
The second book of social documentarist Matúš Zajac called OUT will make you meditate.
- Four years of photographing – nine essays – seven awards. -
“He is there where are no others are and sees what others don`t see and don`t perceive. I appreciate Matúš as a man, I appreciate his approach to life and I really like his work.“
- Jindřich Štreit. -
Selected works used in book OUT.
You can see the new issue of Slovak Art Magazine at your devices. Besides we bring awesome portfolios we try to constantly get better. SAM rebuilt the design of its website so now it is faster, more colorful and user friendly. We also made comments available so do not hesitate to send us any feedback you want to share for each post. We run a new section “Interviews with photographers” where you will find out what makes photographer a photographer. You can read about their life, troubles and what they sacrificed for this dream job and what they got. All interviews have been authorized and published in issues of SAM.
We are happy that in SAM 12 we can offer you one of the best interviews we ever did. We spoke with the top world reporter Joe Klamar who is very opened, communicative and not afraid to speak freely. Just couple days before the closure of this issue we became a media partner of big Czech festival called Open-air PHOTO festival which second edition is planned for the next year 2015. We are excited being part of such a great event and we are willing to do so with similar type of events in the future. Our cooperation with Robert Vano Gallery continues so you can read two articles from their production. Summer in north hemisphere just begins and editorial board of SAM wishes you a nice time full of light spent with your camera and best friends.

SAM has breathed new life into the eleventh issue and next decade. Our magazine has established close cooperation with Robert Vano Gallery as it is evidenced by two articles about photographers, covered by portal robertvanogallery.com. In each issue we have an ambition to present at least one “invisible photographer”. We are pleased by the quantity of pictures which have been submitted to our g@llery. We tried to responsibly choose the best, but a few shots were kept as a reserve for the twelfth issue. We are really happy and looking forward to each of the photos sent. We have also to mention the very last article of the eleventh issue; a great photo report from The Archipelago of Svalbard, shot, written and sent by Anette Mossbacher from Switzerland (Anette was featured in SAM 05). It is really worth to click through to the last page. We wish you a pleasant browsing…

Our magazine has started a great cooperation with Robert Vano Gallery. Roberto Vano is a master photographer who was featured and interviewed in SAM 03. We bring you a first article about its series called “Invisible photographers“.
Quating Mr. Robert Vano: „You have to see the photo, otherwise it doesn`t exist! All invisible photographers have in common great love to photography and a strong need to grow up, get better and learn new things… From their stories you can feel deep humility and stamina.“
Invisible photographers is an ongoing project managed by Robert Vano Gallery. Last year team of Robert Vano Gallery and Webmagazine.sk brought 15 unknown photographers into public attention and 22 more are in plan for this year. All of them own a portfolio which in many cases even beats the professional photographers. The biggest challenge in the upcoming future is to organize a common exhibition in Bratislava and Prague and to publish a catalog in the beginning of 2015.
SAM celebrates tenth anniversary. This issue is specific in that it comes at Christmas time when Western civilization is probably in the biggest rush of the year. Inspite of that we could not resist and we invite you to a winter walk in hand with creative art presented. We did not meet some targets which we announced in the last issue. For example, we were not able to prepare the traveler’s photo report and follow up on a great story from Iceland. Nevertheless, we bring other interesting and original articles by authors Peter Šedý and Rosemary Horn. We believe that, as in previous issue also in this issue, everyone will find what he likes. After all, the world of photography and visual arts is so rich and we are glad that we can contribute a bit and promote great authors who have something to say to the world. This is the main reason for our existence. Our editors wish you a pleasant browsing online, or convenient PDF viewing on your tablet. Have a wonderful holiday season.
